25 Pro-Amaechi Lawmakers Dump PDP and Declare For APC

25 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, loyal to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has formally declared for the ruling party in Rivers State, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during a session, House Leader, Hon. Chidi Lloyd, said they had ceased to be members of the PDP, adding that further correspondence to them should bear the APC.
In his words: “The 25 pro-Amaechi lawmakers have asked me to declare our formal defection to All Progressives Congress. Henceforth, 25 of us should be referred to as All Progressives Congress members. We are telling the world today that we are all members of APC.”
Responding to their defection, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Dan-Amachree, requested his colleagues to in accordance with the law document their decision.
Meanwhile, one of the pro-Amaechi lawmakers, Hon. Golden Chioma, who was kidnapped by gunmen in the state last week has been freed by his captors. He regained his freedom after about one week in captivity.
Hon Chioma’s release on Wednesday morning came less than 24hours after the seventh Legislative Assembly, in a motion of urgent attention, appealed to the suspected kidnappers to free him unhurt.
Chief of Staff to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Hon. Tony Okocha, has declared that the alleged moves by some forces operating from Abuja to use six members of the Rives State House of Assembly to impeach the governor will not succeed.

Two of the men arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for snatching cars at gunpoint in the Igando area of Lagos have identified themselves as a graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State and a Postgraduate Diploma holder from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The first suspect, Ifeoluwa Coker, said he was a student of Biology Education in FUTA, the second, John Odu, said he bagged a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Sciences from UNIPORT in 2001.
Punch had reported on Monday, July 14, that some suspects were arrested by operatives of the command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad for snatching exotic cars and reselling them to unsuspecting Nigerians in Igando.
It was learnt that after the police had arrested one Ismaila Kareem, who is said to be the gang leader, Kareem confessed to the police that he had sold a stolen Toyota Camry to Odu for N290,000.
Odu, 39, from Ahoada, Rivers State, when arrested by the police, had confessed that he resold the vehicle to a friend, Promise Nwoke, for N400,000.
When asked why he ventured into buying snatched cars from the gang, Odu lamented that he needed to make ends meet.
He said, “I had relocated to Lagos from Port Harcourt after I was laid off from work. I was previously working with a construction company in Rivers State before most of the workers were laid off. I came to Lagos and I needed to make ends meet. I knew the cars Kareem were selling to me were stolen. He had only sold two cars to me.”
On his part, 28-year-old Coker denied any knowledge that the vehicle he received from Kareem was a stolen vehicle, adding that his friend Desmond had simply sent him to receive the car on his behalf.
He said, “I do not know Desmond has been buying stolen cars. We were living together and he has been a good guardian to me since I gained admission into the university. He sent me to receive the Toyota Camry for him. I do not know anything about the robbery.”

Immediately the incident happened, there was confusion in the vicinity as many of the invited guests fled the hotel.
A source who was present during the unfortunate incident disclosed that Ibrahim was drunk. He said that “the incident happened on Saturday night when Busayo and her friends were having a party.
“She did not know the person celebrating, but she was invited to the party by her boyfriend. The party was going on fine until...
"Ibrahim, the security man, who was holding a gun which he claimed he had seized from some robbers, mishandled the gun and fired a bullet which hit Busayo. The guard was said to be drunk.”
According to Punch, the incident took place on Saturday evening, July 5, 2014, at Mambillah Hotel, when the guard fired a shot that killed Busayo. The bullet lodged in the neck region of the victim.
She was rushed to a private hospital in the area where she was confirmed dead. Policemen from the Owutu Police Division were said to have arrived at the scene and arrested the guard, the assistant manager of the hotel and the victim’s boyfriend.
Mambillah, which is one of the popular hotels in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, bore a gloomy look all through. A resident confided in Punch that since the tragedy, the hotel had been shut to guests and no music had been played during the daytime as was the practice.
A large number of security officials was also said to have been deployed in the hotel to prevent attack from some aggrieved youths in the area.
A young boy, who did not identify himself for security reason, said the incident left a bloody trail. He said, “On Sunday morning when I wanted to do something in the hotel, I noticed blood on the ground. I cannot say exactly how the incident happened, but I learnt a lady was killed the previous night.”
Ibrahim, the guard who fired the killer shot, owned a house in Ikorodu. Punch spoke with one of his tenants, who pleaded anonymity for security reasons. The tenant described Ibrahim as a caring landlord who was only a victim of some “forces.”
She said, “He is such a nice and caring landlord. I have been living in his house for a long time and he has never made any trouble with me. I know he is just a victim of some forces beyond his control. He could not have deliberately killed the girl and I hope the police authorities would have mercy on him.”
When contacted, the manager of the hotel said he had nothing to say.
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lelma Kolle, an ASP, however, confirmed the incident. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for investigation.

In the last 24hours, the #BringBackOurGirls Abuja family has observed with consternation the escalation of the pattern of the campaign of calumny by Government officials on our Citizens movement advocating for the rescue of the 219 school girls of abducted from Chibok Girls Secondary School, 93 days ago.
The latest in this trend is emanating from the visit facilitated for the 11 parents and five escaped girls who were visiting Abuja to interact with girl-child education advocate Malala Yousafzai. During the public speech by Ms. Malala she declared that she had received a promise by President Jonathan to meet with the 11 parents and five girls. The movement was not aware and neither was it part of the discussion of the said visit to our President.
However, at the BBOG daily sit out, our movement was informed by the Chairman, Abuja Chibok community of the outcome of a meeting held with officials of the Presidency in Malala’s suite (immediately after her speech). He conveyed that they were informed at that meeting of a the scheduling of the visit to the President for the eleven parents and five girls at 4.00pm on Tuesday 15th July 2014.
Although some members of the movement were surprised at the sudden invitation to meet with the President, our leadership concluded that session by emphasizing that it was the absolute right of the Chibok community to decide on the matter...
It is instructive to note that  majority of those at the Unity Fountain on that day were visiting from the Chibok community and were mostly the ones who vehemently expressed dismay at the information from the Chairman. He then clarified on the manner the invitation was conveyed to him and the parents at that meeting and reassured his community that he would schedule an emergency meeting to discuss the matter further.
On Tuesday 15th July 2014, the leadership of our movement were invited to a meeting by the Chibok Chairman and the leadership of their development association with the eleven parents in attendance. At the meeting they conveyed to us their unanimous decision to request for a rescheduling of the Malala facilitated meeting with the President. They further informed us of their intention to reach out to the Malala team and officials of the Presidency to request for an expanded meeting within a sufficient time frame for necessary planning with the rest of their community in Chibok.
We want to repeat for the avoidance of doubt that we are not responsible for the cancellation of the meeting with the President by the 11 Parents and 5 escaped girls from Chibok as been insinuated by some Government officials. As a movement, we wish to seize this opportunity to express our gratitude to Malala who helped amplify the advocacy for concerted efforts towards the rescue of our girls.
Meanwhile, it is pertinent to firmly state that since the inception of our movement in April 2014, we have remained steadfast and adopted all means and channels of civil engagement in the advocacy of our singular issue, which is #BringBackOurGirls NOW and ALIVE!
