Electricity companies defy government’s directive
Lagos - Electricity distribution companies have been putting up some resistance to government ordered stoppage of estimated bill by continuing to slam inflated and outrageous bills on electricity consumers throughout the country.
The companies despite the warning by government still arbitrarily estimate bills without recourse to consumption pattern of customers, reports ThisDay.
Worst hit are electricity consumers who still use the old metres as marketing staff of the electricity distribution companies have refused to take the readings of the functional metres for the purpose of calculating the monthly bills.
The government had through the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) directed electricity companies to desist from over-estimated bills following public outcry on the fixed charges on electricity bills.
